In the late 50’s and early 60’s Western SMT dual sourced their double decker vehicles from both Bristol and Leyland taking the Bristol LD, FLF and the Leyland PD3 in considerable numbers.
RAG 400 was part of the last batch of rear entrance Bristol LDs to be delivered to Western. Thereafter Western took the front entrance FLF model. Numbered DB1634 RAG 400 spent the whole of its working life operating from Dumfries depot.
Withdrawn in the late 1970’s RAG 400 joined Ritchies’s Driver Training in Glasgow as a training bus and mobile classroom. Another former Western Bristol LD RAG 404 joined her in the early 80’s. RAG 400 continued to be used into the 1990’s.
Still owned by Walter Ritchie the bus joined the collection in 2002 and in time she will be restored in the red and cream livery of Western SMT.
